While essential oils are natural, they are also powerful and should always be used mindfully.
- If using a pure essential oil directly on the skin (undiluted), always perform a small patch test first.
- Apply a tiny amount to an area such as the inside of your arm and wait 24 hours to ensure there is no sensitivity.
- If redness or irritation occurs, this usually means too much oil was applied or your skin is sensitive to that particular oil.
- Do not use water to calm the area, as water can spread the oil further. Instead, apply a carrier oil such as coconut oil or olive oil to dilute and soothe the skin.
- Less is always more when it comes to essential oils, a small amount goes a long way.
